SONY DSCSheila McNellis Asato is the visual arts coordinator for the Art of Healing program at the Penny George Institute for Health and Healing.

Every two months, the Penny George Institute invites a new artist to display art that communicates visions or experiences of health, healing and spirit.  The institute displays art from a broad range of cultural backgrounds; the concepts of “health, healing and spirit” have a multiplicity of meanings and The Art of Healing is meant to reflect that diversity.

Asato has a  B.A. in East Asian Studies and Fine Art at Gustavus Adolphus College.  She has an M.A. in human development and is a certified Embodied Imagination coach. As an exchange student at Kansai University of Foreign Studies, Asato studied with a Zen calligraphy master.  She is bilingual in Japanese and English and has taught adults and children for over thirty years, as well as facilitated workshops and presented her award-winning work in the United States, Europe and Japan.
